Dr. Michael R. Nadorff

Michael R. Nadorff, Ph.D.

I am a Professor with Tenure in the Department of Psychology at Mississippi State University, where I have been a faculty member since 2012. I also hold an adjunct appointment at Baylor College of Medicine. My work sits at the intersection of sleep science, mental health, and clinical practice, with a particular focus on how sleep disturbances, including nightmares and insomnia, relate to suicidal behavior.

As a licensed psychologist in the state of Mississippi, I maintain an active clinical practice through the MSU Behavioral Health clinic, where I provide therapy and psychological testing to individuals across the lifespan. I am a generalist who sees clients of all ages for a wide range of concerns, with specialized expertise in sleep disorders, suicide prevention, and geropsychology. I also hold a PsyPact ePassport and am available to see clients via telehealth in any PsyPact participating state, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

My research program, the Sleep, Suicide, and Aging Lab, has produced more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has been supported by more than $15 million in external funding from agencies including SAMHSA, NIH, and AASM. I am a founding member, Fellow, and Past President (2023–2024) of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine.

Beyond research and clinical work, I have a long-standing commitment to training the next generation of psychologists. I served as Director of Clinical Training for MSU's APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral program for ten years, guiding the program through two full accreditation cycles. I have served on more than 10 APA site visit teams and have chaired 8 APA site visits. I now serve as Treasurer of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP).
